Everything StageMix does, and nothing it pretends to.
If a capability depends on the browser, this page says so. Where a browser will not allow something, StageMix reports it rather than offering a control that quietly does nothing.
Cue list
The cue list is the main workflow. Everything else is in service of it.
- Audio cue
- File, trim in and out, gain, pan, playback rate, mute, loop with a count or without, fade in, fade out, pre-wait, post-wait, colour and operator notes.
- Group cue
- Fires the cues indented under it, either all at once or one after another.
- Wait cue
- Holds for a set time. Useful between auto-continues.
- Fade cue
- Rides a playing cue to a new level over a chosen time and curve, optionally stopping it at the end.
- Stop cue
- Stops one cue or everything playing, instantly or over a fade.
- Pause cue
- Pauses, resumes or toggles a playing cue.
- Note cue
- A marker in the list. Fires nothing, says something.
- Go-to cue
- Moves the standing cue, and can fire it too.
Sequencing
What happens after a cue fires, said in plain words with the consequence next to it.
- Do nothing
- Nothing follows. The standing cue does not move.
- Select next
- The next cue stands by. The operator still presses GO.
- Auto-continue
- The next cue fires at the same moment, with no pause.
- Auto-follow
- The next cue fires once this one has finished, after an optional extra delay. Scheduled from the exact end time, so a zero-delay follow is gapless.
Crossfades
One control rather than a chain of automation cues.
- Crossfade builder
- Choose what to fade out, set the out and in times and how much they overlap. Linear, equal-power, exponential and S-curve shapes.
- Visual check
- The two curves are drawn as they will sound before you commit to them.
Audio
Real analysis of your real files.
- Formats
- WAV, MP3, and — where the browser supports them — M4A/AAC, OGG, Opus and FLAC. StageMix decodes each file on import, so a file that imports will play.
- Waveform inspector
- Zoom, scrub, preview, set start and end markers, drag the fade handles, see the loop region. Non-destructive: your file is never written to.
- Simultaneous playback
- Any number of cues can sound at once. Each has its own level, fade and stop control while it plays.
- Output device
- Where the browser permits it, choose which output StageMix plays through. Where it does not, StageMix says so instead of offering a control that does nothing.
Show Mode
A separate environment for running the show, not a second editor.
- GO
- A large GO button and the spacebar. It is guarded against a double press and will never fire while you are typing.
- Standing and next
- The cue about to fire and the one after it, readable from across a room.
- Active cues
- Everything currently sounding, with elapsed, remaining, progress, and pause, stop and fade-out for each.
- Stop All
- Silences every cue and cancels everything pending. It never alters the cue list.
- Operator notes
- The note for the current and next cue, in front of you.
- Show Lock
- Disables editing, deletion and reordering while leaving every playback control live.
Cue Cart
Ad-hoc playback, independent of the cue list.
- Pads
- Large labelled buttons with colour, their own hotkey, optional loop and fades. Restart or toggle on a second press.
- Independent
- Cart playback has its own bus, so stopping the cue list does not silence a sting that is still needed.
Before the house opens
The two things to do before an audience arrives.
- Show Check
- Every file present, every file decodable in this browser, every target and Go-to valid, no impossible sequencing, audio engine available, storage room reported.
- Preload Show
- Decodes what the show needs ahead of time, inside a memory budget, evicting the least recently used rather than exhausting the tab.
- Missing audio recovery
- A moved or renamed file is reconnected by content hash, then by name and size. StageMix never silently attaches the wrong file.
Protecting the work
Programming a show takes hours. Losing it should not be possible.
- Autosave
- Saved locally as you work, with the state always visible.
- Undo and redo
- A hundred steps, with related edits grouped into one.
- Versions
- Label a snapshot — dress rehearsal, opening night — and restore it. Audio is never duplicated.
- Portable packages
- Export a .stagemix file with or without the audio, and import one back. Imports are validated, size-capped and hash-checked.
Not in this version, and honestly so
- MIDI and OSC. The architecture has a place for them and the groundwork is laid, but neither is implemented, so neither is offered. OSC in particular needs a local helper application, because a browser cannot send arbitrary network packets.
- Video and lighting. StageMix is audio. Getting audio right came first.
- Playback while the machine sleeps. No browser application can promise that. StageMix asks to keep the screen awake during Show Mode where the browser allows it, and tells you when it could not.
